GeUeUL
POLLACK ROE RESTAURANT THAT DEPICTS KOREAN TRADITIONAL KITCHEN
G eUeUL is a restaurant serving pollack roe, a historical ingredient in Korea. The overall atmosphere of the space contains the impression of a traditional Korean kitchen.
Samcheong-dong, located in Seoul, is an area with various historical sites including Gyeongbokgung Palace and cultural facilities such as the Museum of Modern Art. GeUeUL is a space that shows Korean food culture and aesthetics, so it blends well with the region. Especially, the existing building where the project was carried out is a special space overlooking the hanok through the window.
To express the scene of a fire burning in a furnace called "Agung-i" and smoke rising from a chimney, an empty space was created on the floor and a huge wall was inserted diagonally. The texture of the wall symbolizes the property of blackening soot as it approaches heat. The word "GeUeUL" means soot in Korean.
